It’s National New Friends Day, when you’re supposed to get out there and make some more of them.
Ranker.com asked people to name the best country songs about friends and friendship. A few of the songs don’t seem THAT friendship-focused, but let’s see how they did. Here are the top ten . . .
1. “Find Out Who Your Friends Are“ by Tracy Lawrence (2007)
2. “Friends in Low Places“ by Garth Brooks (1990)
3. “My Best Friend“ by Tim McGraw (1999)
4. “My Wish“ by Rascal Flatts (2006) The lyrics COULD work for a friend. But that one was technically written for songwriter Jeffrey Steele’s daughter.
5. “Laughed Until We Cried“ by Jason Aldean (2007) It’s about friends, but also about family.
6. “I Hope You Dance“ by Lee Ann Womack (2000) That one’s more about a mom and her kids. But it’s become a friendship song for a lot of people.
7. “These Are My People“ by Rodney Atkins (2007)
8. “Live Like You Were Dying“ by Tim McGraw (2004) This one’s technically about a guy who lost his dad. But it was inspired by a friend of the songwriters who’d been misdiagnosed and thought he was dying.
9. “Beer for My Horses“ by Toby Keith and Willie Nelson (2003) It’s clearly about crime and punishment. I guess they included it as a “friends” song because of lines like “saddle up your boys” and “whiskey for my men.”
10. “This One’s for the Girls“ by Martina McBride (2003)
Here are a few more that just missed the top ten: “Talladega” by Eric Church . . . “Cowboys Like Us” by George Strait . . . and “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight” by Hank Williams Jr. (Ranker)
