If you leave any amount of DNA at a crime scene, cops WILL catch you these days. Just watch any episode of “Forensic Files”. So this was more than enough to go on . . .
A 67-year-old guy named Vernon Wilson tried to get into a guy’s house in Burlington, North Carolina last Thursday. (Halfway between Raleigh and Winston-Salem.)
He had a gun, and they struggled at the front door. He fired at least one shot. But it only grazed the guy, who managed to slam the door and lock it.
Vernon took off, but police were able to track him down thanks to some evidence he left behind. They found a glove . . . with his SEVERED FINGER still inside it.
It turned out the homeowner had slammed the door on his hand, and that’s when he lost the finger.
They were able to use the finger to I.D. Vernon, who has a record and was already in the system. He’s facing charges for first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
