People in downtown Los Angeles got quite a show on Wednesday night (3/20) when a fireball went streaking across the sky.
But contrary to what people may have thought, Angelenos weren’t witnessing a meteor crashing down from the sky; it was actually just a stunt from two Red Bull Air Force wingsuit flyers.
According to KCAL-TV, the wingsuit team jumped from a helicopter 4,000 feet above the city and entered downtown traveling at more than 120 MPH.
The fireball effect came from the flyer wearing a custom suit equipped with LED lights and pyrotechnic sparks, which made it look like a meteor as it passed by the third and final supermoon of 2019.
The LAPD even reassured residents about the fireball’s true nature, tweeting, “PSA: A meteor did not crash into Downtown Los Angeles, and no, it’s not an alien invasion…just a film shoot. This is Tinseltown after all.”
The stunt was reportedly the first-ever wingsuit jump into downtown L.A.
